IACC Version 5 is a good example of how CFD can be used to rank candidate hulls in a design study. Using A full RANS Code we were able to compare many hull shapes. Below are Two candidate hulls, the first similar to NZL82 and the second more like NZL 92.

And here is a comparison of the computational performance compared to tank test results. But the real advantage in CFD is the other information you can glean from the result. Helping take the guess work out of the next design iteration.
